This is the spring 480 B.C., the Persian King Xerxes, following the plan the director of his father Dariu to conquer the cities - been Hellenic, it comes to Hellas. The previous Persian invasion and the diplomatic tries tribes have already turned Hellas more north and been nearby Persian. But the people of Athens and Esparta, the biggest Hellenic power of that time, sensation completely insulted by the request of the Persian emissaries to yield to Xerxes, and so to kill them. In Esparta, King Leonidas consults the local oracle, who gives two options: a Spartan king will have to be sacrificed, or Esparta will be burned to the ground. One year earlier (481, B.C.) a consortium Panhellenic of all the cities - the state of the south had already recognized the superiority of the army Espartano (the best organized and the army trained then) and King Leonidas had declared as the supreme commander of the Hellenic combined army. It is decided then that a small force should block the way of Xerxes to Hellas of the south in the step Thermopylae. This step was, then, 12 meters wide. The big historian Herodotus, possibly exaggeration, declares that there were 1,700,000 Persian ones (his real number might have been everywhere from 100,000 to 1,000,000) against 7,000 hoplites Hellenic and slaves, even 300 men of the guard of elite of King Espartana. King Xerxes hoped four days for the Hellenes to be scared and finally to give up and he was completely surprised by the finished apathy of his opponents. The Xerxes tried to convince Leonidas to drop weapon, leave his position, not kneel down before him and I live in like a local governor under Xerxes. King Leonidas answered *quot; molon wash, *quot; the one that it means *quot; They come and obtain them. *quot; The battle of three days began, with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians (another Hellenes where sent by Leonidas to protect steps to his flanks) slaughter of thousands of Persian with minimal losses. The Persian entire campaign would have failed if it had not been for Efialtes, who showed to Xerxes a secret step to the Hellenic flanks. After a final battle led by King Xerxes he himself, the Hellenic force was killed and his heroism and the glory was written forever in the history. From the beginning of the battle, the Hellenes buried his dead persons in the point where they fell down. Then fight signs where done for the dead persons of every Hellenic faction. For the Pelloponisians, (even 300 Spartans) the generally well-read sign (free translation) *quot; In this place 4,000 Pelloponisians it fought against 30 millions). *quot; For 300 Spartans (Lakaedaemonians), the sign reads (free translation) *quot; Ah abroad, to say to the Lakaedaemonians that we are buried here obeying his laws, *quot; meaning that they never hesitated and they never moved back from the enemy. The impact of the battle was enormous for both sides. The morality of the Persian ones fell down to the zero, and the Hellenes lost his fear of the Persian conqueror and organized his defense. After several guessed right battles, finally the Persian army defeated the Hellenes and it repelled his invasion in the Battle of Plataea in 479 B.C..
