When Brett Banner, 32 year old heir to New York Eastern talks his dad into purchasing Willamette Western, there is immediately a clash between himself and Jeremiah. Jeremiah is fired by Brett two years from retirement and turns into a angry, depressed grandfather. When Brett's nine year old son Justin realizes Jeremiah's grandson Thomas can drive a locomotive, he kidnaps and holds Thomas' favorite dinosaur ransom. The film is in charge of the situation of British prisoners of war during the Second World war who are ordered to construct a bridge to lodge the railway of Burma-Siam. Their instinct must sabotage the bridge, but, conducted by colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness), they are persuaded that the bridge should be constructed as a symbol of British morale, mind and respectability in the hostile circumstances. At the beginning, the prisoners admire Nicholson when he endures courageously torment rather than compromise his principles aimed at the Japanese commander Saito (Sessue Hayakawa). He is an arrogant but honorable man, who is slowly revealed to be obsessive one deceiving. It persuades himself that the bridge is a monument with British character, but a monument really belongs to him and her emphasis on its building becomes a subtle form of collaboration with the enemy. The unknown to him, the Allies sent a mission to the jungle, led by the Manager (Jack Hawkins) and an American, Tondages (William Holden), to exaggerate the bridge.

In 1866, Kansas, American civil war has just finished and the dissolved armies. The Western building begins and in 1872, the new city city of Movement aside is governed by violence and murders. Irish Wade Hatton (Errol Flynn) is a man adapted these days and fulfils a group of pioneers currently, by including Abbie Irving (Olivia de Havilland) and his careless brother, to Elude the City. Once in the city, Flounder is invited to be the local sheriff and an incident makes it accept position. It tries to rehabilitate the city of stock, governed by the powerful outlaw Jeff Surrett (Bruce Cabot) and its gang, with the support of the decent local population.
