Cal Trask is particularly unfortunate young man. He sees himself as the black sheep of the family and is still competing with his brother Aaron, who seems to be perfect in almost every way. Aaron is also a favorite of their father Cal desperately wants his father's love and affection. It is a period that led to U.S. entry into the First World War, and these are turbulent times. After his father lost most of his property trying to ship in cold salad in New York, Cal decided to speculate on the harvest of beans and makes a small fortune, but soon realize that you can not buy either his father's love. Cal is finding that his mother lives - on and Aaron was told that she died - and that she is a lady leads to the final, tragic outcome for all three of the men Trask.

Scotty Smalls moves to a new neighborhood with his mummy and stepdad, and wants to learn to play baseball. They fall in adventure which enclose baseball, treehouse sleep in, the eager lifeguard in the local puddle, the snooty competing ball team, and the travelling fair. Except the fence in the back of the sandlot menaces must deal a legendary ball essender dog called the beast, and the children with him without fail.

An old man at a nursing home reads a history of an old woman every day. The history which he reads follows two young lovers called Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun.
