Quand Tristan trouve l’étoile, il est assommé pour découvrir qu’il est, pas un gros morceau de roche météorique, mais une fille furieuse, blessée appelée Yvaine (Claire Danes) - qui n’a aucun désir à être tiré à travers le monde et présenté à la petite amie de n’importe qui. Mais Tristan n’est pas le seul en cherchant l’étoile. Un roi mourant (Peter O’Toole) quatre fils - sans parler des spectres de leurs trois frères morts - tout le besoin l’étoile comme ils rivalisent pour le trône. Trois méchantes sorcières, menées par Lamia infernal (Michelle Pfeiffer) cherchent le coeur de l’étoile pour les rendre jeunes de nouveau. Tristan et Yvaine sont forcés à fuir ensemble, en rencontrant le capitaine d’un navire pirate volant (Robert De Niro) et un commerçant ombragé appelé Ferdy la Clôture (Ricky Gervais) le long de la voie. Comme ils voyagent Tristan découvre le sens de vrai amour, mais ne se rend pas compte qu’il mène Yvaine dans même plus de danger.
