Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) is the outsider of her class. She's a mousy girl, all of her classmates hate her, and her mother (Piper Laurie) is a religous fanatic who walks around in a black cape. After she unexpectedly has her first period, she is teased by the girls more ruthlessly than before. The gym teacher (Betty Buckley) punishes the girls that were involved and one of them, Sue Snell (Amy Irving), feels sorry for what she did and asks her boyfriend (William Katt) to take Carrie to the prom instead of her. But another girl that has been banned from the prom, Chris Hargenson (Nancy Allen), isn't so forgiving and hatches an evil plan with her boyfriend (John Travolta) that involves Carrie and a bucket full of pig's blood. But what none of the students realize is that Carrie has the power of telekenisis, the power to move things with your mind, and that when you make her mad, she transforms from an innocent girl to a rage-filled monster. And this is gonna be a prom no one will ever forget. |

In 1952, the polyglot twelve year-old David, who was raised in the Communist Belene Prison Camp in Bulgaria, witnesses the death of his friend and protector Johannes and escapes from the concentration camp in the night. He is advised to mistrust everybody and together with a piece of bread, a compass, a piece of soap, a jackknife and a sealed envelope to be delivered in Denmark, he travels though Greece and Italy heading North. Along his journey, David discovers the beauty of the world and slowly he changes his behavior with people. When he meets Sophie, an old lady that lives in Switzerland and likes to paint as hobby, she asks David to paint his face; later she invites David to have lunch with her in her house, and David finally discloses his quest to her. |

A word. What is the pervert? Sex freak, deranged degenerate, disturbed diabolical psychotic subversive embracer of things both erotic and erratic. What is to pervert? The twist of an object, phrase or ideal in such a way it was never intended or even imagined. Who is the pervert? Why, that's another story altogether... A young man (Sean Andrews as "James") comes to spend the summer at the remote desert ranch of his father (Darrell Sandeen as "Hezekiah") in hopes of repairing their estranged relationship only to find that he's become a psychotic madman. But who is responsible for the bizarre murders James has uncovered? Hezekiah pins the blame on his son, and after a series of unexplainable incidents, James begins to doubt his own suspicions. Revolving around Truvy's Beauty Parlor in a small parish in modern-day Louisiana, STEEL MAGNOLIAS is the story of a close-knit circle of friends whose lives come together there. As the picture opens, we find Drum Eatenton shooting birds in the trees of his back yard in preparation for his daughter's wedding reception that afternoon. Shortly thereafter, M'Lynn and Shelby (Drum's wife and daughter) depart for Truvy's to get their hair done for the wedding. "Just the sweetest thing," Annelle Depuy Desoto (who may or may not be married because her marriage may not be legal) is introduced to Truvy's customers as her new "glamour technician." While in the chairs, the sour-tempered Ouiser Boudreaux shows up and entertains the assemblage with her barbs. It seems that the only one of the group who truly understands Ouiser is Clairee who is recently widowed and looking for a diversion. As she says, later in the picture, "If you can't find anything good to say about anybody, come sit by me." Filled with humor and heartbreak, these "Steel Magnolias" make us laugh and cry as the realities of their lives in tiny Chiquapin Parish unfolds. |
