Jed Clampett and the family move from the Arkansas to Beverly Hills when he becomes a billionaire, after an oil strike. The country people are very naive as for the life in the great city, so when Jed begins an inquiry of a new wife be inevitably the buyers abundance and it swindles ready artists to do a quick dollar.

A game of history against the Massacre of Alpine Prairies, the movie is based on the tragedy that happened in Utah in 1857. A group of settlers, who travel in cars, was murdered by the native Mormons. All together, approximately 140 souls of men, women and children, were taken. Between this one, two young future for the lovers, one a Mormon and other of the convicted settlers of Arkansas, develop a relation in an ambience of suspicion and rancor.

Louise works in a restaurant of fast food restaurant as a waitress and has some problems with her friend Jimmy, who, as a musician, is always on the road. Thelma is married to Darryl who loves his wife to remain silent in the kitchen so that he can look at football in the TV. One day they decide to break of their normal life and jump in the car and to set off. Their trip, however, is transformed into theft when Louise kills a man who threatens to violate Thelma. They decide to go to Mexico, but soon they are searched by the American police.
