Two hundred and fifty years in the future, life as we know it are threatened by the arrival of the Cruelty. Only the fifth element (played by Milla Jovovich) can stop the Cruelty of extinguishing the life, like him tries to do each five thousand years. She is helped by the ex-soldier, the driver of the current taxi, Corben Dallas (played by Bruce Willis), who he is, à his time, helped by the clone of Prince/Arsenio, Ruby Rhod. Ela é ajudada pelo ex-soldado, o motorista do táxi atual, Corben Dallas (jogado por Bruce Willis), quem é, à sua vez, ajudado pelo clone de Prince/Arsenio, Ruby Rhod. Infelizmente, a Maldade assiste o Sr.. O Zorg (Gary Oldman), que procura aproveitar do caos que a Maldade trará, e os seus mercenários alheios.
