On Christmas Eve, all of the citizens of the small town of Bedford Falls pray to the heavens to help George Bailey. It was then decided that Clarence, an angel who does not earn his wings, is to help George. Before he does, he should know who George Bailey was. George Bailey grew up in Bedford Falls, a small town, where he dreams of leaving and making his mark on the world. His family company is the only thing that stands between the good citizens and Mr. Potter, a rich miser who enjoy taking care of everyone without even caring how it affects them. George was all to leave when his father died and had to take care of business. George would forever be hindered by his plans to leave and that he does nothing other than a failure, he decided to kill himself. That's when Clarence comes and tries to convince him that he has done something with his life, and that he had a "Wonderful Life".

After a war which decimated the government and the biggest part of the population of the United States (maybe the world) people makes an effort to survive against starving and the scoundrel’s groups of armed men. Such a group is called the Holnists. This group is bigger than some different and her leader, general has Bethlehem, delusions to rule over the land. A Treibnetzfischdampfer (Costner) is arrested by the group and to join constrainedly. He flees in the first chance and bumps into a post jeep with a skeleton in it. The skeleton carries a post uniform, and the Treibnetzfischdampfer it takes to keep in him. He also finds a post bag and starts steering people with old letters.
