When an entire town in upstate New York is closed down by an unexpected snowfall, a "snow day" begins when a group of elementary school kids, led by Natalie Brandston, try to ensure that the schools stay closed by stopping a mechanical snowplow driver by trying to hijack his plow truck. Meanwhile, Natalie's big brother Hal is using this day to try to win the affections of Claire Bonner, the most popular girl in his high school, while Hal and Natalie's father Tom, a TV meteorologist, faces off against a rival meteorologist for weather coverage of the day's events. The idea of the film was apparently given to Chaplin by a young reporter, who told him about the production line system in Detroit, which was turning its workers into nervous wrecks. In the film, Charlie becomes literally trapped in the machine and, in one of his finest patches of comic invention, is battered and buffeted by an automatic feeding machine introduced by his bosses to save time and money. Cured after his breakdown, he is arrested when he picks up a red flag that has fallen off the back of a lorry, and runs down the street to return it, exactly the same time as a left-wing demonstration comes round the corner. He meets 'The Gamine' in the back of the police van, who has also been arrested for stealing bread. From then on the theme is about two nondescripts trying to get along in modern times. English nobleman Phileas Fogg, a very strict and emotionless man, gets wound up in a bet at his gentlemen's club: He has to prove that it is possible to travel around the whole world in only 80 days. Together with his new butler Passepartout, who expected a different first day at work, he takes off instantly to Paris, where they miss the train to Marseilles. But a travel agent called Thomas Cook offers them his captive balloon, which carries them to Spain instead. Passepartout's skills are necessary in a bullfight in order to get them a ship that should take them back onto their planned route. An ominous Mr. Fix starts crossing their path more and more often, he somehow seems to try to hinder their forthcoming. In the deep jungles of India, the butler's skills are again needed in a case of rescuing beautiful Princess Aouda, who is to be burnt alive at the side of her dead husband. In Hongkong, Passepartout meets drugs in a involuntarily manner and in the United States, the wild, wild west takes its toll. All the time, Mr. Fogg has his usual timetable and meal schedule running at normal pace, so that all the waves have to be broken by Passepartout. And he won't get paid much, because he left the gas running, back in London. When the journey comes to a dramatic returning to England, Mr. Fogg has to cope with the facts that he seems to have lost the bet by some hours, but gained something he never seemed to have: emotion. |

A heffalump is heard trumpeting in the hundred acre woods. Winnie the pooh, tigger, and piglet are scared and rush to Rabbit's house for advice. Roo joins them and they all agree that heffalumps are nearby after finding a huge footprint. They decide to set out on an expedition to catch the heffalump. Roo is not allowed to come along because he is too little. |
