The Army of the United States is below the pressure of the desperate relatives of white prisoners of the Comanches to hold his redemption. A cynical and corrupt marshal, Guthrie McCabe, is persuaded by a lieutenant of army to assist in the negotiations with the Comanches. Nevertheless, only two prisoners are launched; and his reintegration in the white society turns out to be highly problematic.
