In the 19th century New Mexico, a father (Tommy Lee Jones) comes back home, hoping to be reconciled with his adult daughter Maggie (Cate Blanchett). The daughter of Maggie is kidnapped to work together father and being separated daughter compelling, to get back them.

The Fargo is based on real events that happened in Minnesota in 1987 with the names changed to protect the victims. Jerry is employed at the representation of cars of his father-in-law and has been obtained in financial problems. He tries several schemes of rising with the necessary money for a reason that really is never explained. He has to be assumed that his enormous embezzlement of the money of the representation is on the verge of being discovered by the father-in-law.
