Louise works in a restaurant of fast food restaurant as a waitress and has some problems with her friend Jimmy, who, as a musician, is always on the road. Thelma is married to Darryl who loves his wife to remain silent in the kitchen so that he can look at football in the TV. One day they decide to break of their normal life and jump in the car and to set off. Their trip, however, is transformed into theft when Louise kills a man who threatens to violate Thelma. They decide to go to Mexico, but soon they are searched by the American police.
Louise travaille dans un restaurant de fast-food comme une serveuse et a quelques problèmes avec son ami Jimmy, qui, comme un musicien, est toujours sur la route. Thelma est mariée à Darryl qui aime sa femme rester silencieux dans la cuisine pour qu’il puisse regarder le football à la TV. Un jour ils décident de se casser de leur vie normale et saut dans la voiture et se mettre en route. Leur voyage, pourtant, se transforme en vol quand Louise tue un homme qui menace de violer Thelma. Ils décident d’aller au Mexique, mais bientôt ils sont recherchés par la police américaine.
