In 1950 - something New York, a photographer adventuresome freelancer thinks he is bordered in a wheelchair in his very small flat while a broken leg repairs. With only the occasional entertainment of a nurse of visit and its interest of love reduces to nonexistence, a nice way that the adviser, its attention is of course attracted to the courtyard outside her *quot; window arrière*quot; and the occupiers of houses divided into flats which encircle it. Soon it is used by dramas deprived of its neighbours’ lives which finish before the eyes. There is *quot; Miss Lonelyhearts, *quot; having so despaired for her imaginary lover as her sits down to her a plate at the table of dinner and feigns their dialogue following. There is the exhausting irritated compositor on the piano, the sculptor making get a tan, the well made proportional dancer, the new bridegrooms who are hidden of their neighbours by a shade of window and a couple mature bungling with a small yelping dog who sleep on the ladder of rescue to avoid the sweltering warmth of their flat. And then there is the mysterious seller whose sudden absence of groundless woman of the stage by baiting, coincides menaçamment with incursions *quot; middle of nuit*quot; in darkness, city sleeping with its case of promotion. Avec seulement la distraction occasionnelle d’un infirmier de visite et de son intérêt d’amour réduit à néant, une belle manière que le conseiller, son attention est naturellement attirée à la cour à l’extérieur de sa "fenêtre arrière" et les occupants des maisons divisées en appartements qui l’entourent. Bientôt il est consommé par les drames privés de ses vies de voisins qui se finissent avant ses yeux. Il y a "Mlle Lonelyhearts," si désespéré pour son amant imaginaire qu’elle se l’assoit une plaque à la table de dîner et feint leur conversation s’ensuivant. Il y a le compositeur énervé claquant sur son piano, le sculpteur se faisant bronzer, le danseur bien proportionné, les nouveaux mariés qui sont dissimulés de leurs voisins par une ombre de fenêtre et un couple bungling d’âge mûr avec un petit chien jappant qui dorment sur l’échelle de sauvetage pour éviter la chaleur oppressante de leur appartement. Et ensuite il y a le vendeur mystérieux dont en harcelant, l’absence soudaine de femme sans fondement de la scène coïncide menaçamment avec les incursions "le milieu de la nuit" dans l’obscurité, la ville dormant avec son cas de promotion. Où est-elle allée ? Ce qui est dans le tronc que le vendeur expédie loin ? Qu’est-il été en faisant avec les couteaux et le fait de voir qu’il fait le ménage à l’évier ?.
