A baby, the obviously inoffensive spool of plastic of film leads the specialist of surveillance Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage) down a more and more dark and frightening track. With the help of Max streetwise (Joaquin Phoenix), Welles follows a strange lane of obviousness relentlessly to determine the destiny of a complete foreigner. As his job is transformed into fixed idea, it derives from his wife (Catherine Keener), family and simple life as a local-small private eye farther and farther.

Avec l’aide de Max streetwise (Joaquin Phoenix), Welles suit implacablement une piste bizarre d’évidence pour déterminer le destin d’un étranger complet. Comme son travail se transforme en obsession, il dérive plus loin et plus loin de sa femme (Catherine Keener), famille et vie simple comme un oeil privé municipal-petit.
