Plot Summary:
In the coast of the East of Nova Zelândia, the people Whangara believe that his presence there dates thousand years or more to the only ancestor, Paikea, who avoided the death when his overturned canoe getting on the coast on basis of a whale. When first-born, always male was leaving from there, the chiefs of Whangara, always, they were thought straight descendants of Paikea. The Father, 11-year-old girl in a Piece of news tribe of patriarchal Zelândia, believes that she is destined to be the new chief. But his grandfather Koro is tied by the tradition to choose a masculine leader. Father loves Koro more than someone in the world, but she must fight with him and thousand years of the tradition to carry out his destiny.
Na costa do Leste da Nova Zelândia, a gente Whangara acredita que a sua presença lá data mil anos ou mais a um antepassado único, Paikea, que evitou a morte quando a sua canoa emborcada montando à costa com base em uma baleia. A partir daí, os chefes de Whangara, sempre primogênito, sempre macho, foram considerados descendentes diretos de Paikea. O Pai, menina de 11 anos em uma Nova tribo de Zelândia patriarcal, acredita que ela é destinada para ser o novo chefe. Mas seu avô Koro é atado pela tradição para escolher um líder masculino.
